What Can I Say?

Q

I have a friend who is a total skeptic but was recently in a very serious accident. The doctors marvel that he is even alive. I have attributed his survival to God’s plans for his future, but he’s not convinced. What can I say to someone who still shows no interest in the Lord even after something like this?

A

If being healed from an accident like that doesn’t get his attention, how can mere words get through? The best thing to do now is back off and pray. Some of his resistance may be due to the fact that he thinks you’re expecting him to admit seeing God’s hand in his healing. It’s a lot of pressure, and he may need some theological space. Just focus on the friendship and let the Holy Spirit do His part. It is His job, after all, and He’s pretty good at it.
