What Is A Mason?

Q

I would like to know what a mason is. I was told that when my father-in-law was a member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus that he was a member of a secret society. All his friends belong to the same clubs and all were Christians. I do not understand. People tell me he was a mason and that this was not Christian. Please explain. Thank you for your time and your web site. I have learned much from you.

VFW stands for Veterans of Foreign Wars and it just what it claims to be, a club whose members are combat veterans of the American Armed Forces. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men’s fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families.

Freemasonry is a secret society that claims to have originated in the time of Solomon’s Temple. Although many Christians have been members over the years, Freemasonry is not a Christian organization and in fact, subtly teaches a works-based theology in its rituals. It also holds the view that the Great Architect of the Universe, their name for God, can be any deity that its members follow. In the advanced degrees of Freemasonry, members are taught a form of the Luciferian doctrine, in which Lucifer is the angel of light trying to bring light into the world, but is prevented from doing so by Adonay, whose name is a form of the Hebrew word for Lord.
