Q
I know that TuB’Av is coming up. Do you know what the holiday is and the significance it serves?
A
Originally the 15th of Av (July / August) marked the beginning of the grape harvest. It was a joyous day when the unmarried maidens of Israel dressed in white and danced among the grapes to show they were eligible to become some young man’s bride.
In modern times it’s often referred to as a day of love, similar in some ways to Valentine’s Day in our culture. It’s considered to be a good day to get married.
In 2015, TuB’Av begins at sundown on Thursday, July 30 and ends at sundown on Friday July 31.
