When Did Jesus Become God’s Son?

Q

Was Jesus the son of God from the beginning ? I mean did he give up his place in heaven as the son of God to be born on earth through Mary as a man? Also what happens after the one thousand year rule on earth by Christ is over does Jesus offer up the kingdom to God so heaven and earth become one like in the Lord’s prayer?

A

In Psalm 2:7-9, written by King David about 1000 BC, we read,

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:
He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will break them with a rod of iron;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

David was quoting the Father speaking to the Son. We don’t know exactly when this statement was made, but from John 1:1-2 it’s clear that father and Son were both present at the Creation.

In 1 Cor. 15:24-25 Paul spoke of the end of the Millennium saying, “Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority and power For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.” And in verse 28 Paul said, “When He has done this, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him (the Father) who put everything under Him (the Son) so that God may be all in all.”

The Lord’s prayer speaks of God’s will being done on Earth as it is in Heaven. It doesn’t say the two will actually become one. The Bible doesn’t go into any detail about how things will be after the Millennium ends.
