With Jesus Or In Limbo?

Q

I was on your site reading about the time when the dead in Christ will be resurrected and caught up in the air at the time of the rapture. Now I am confused. I always thought that when I passed away, my soul would go to heaven or hell depending if I had accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior. I have done this and have looked forward to being in heaven with Jesus and the Lord God Almighty. If the dead in Christ will rise first, then does that mean they’ve all been waiting in limbo or does the Lord send the ones who have died back to be in a resurrected body?

A

It’s true that when believers die they go to be with Jesus, but they go in spirit form. Their bodies go into the grave and decay . At the rapture they’ll be reunited with new physical bodies that will make it appear like they’ve come up out of the grave (2 Cor. 5:1-8). The bodies of we who are alive at the Rapture will be instantaneously changed from mortal to immortal (1 Cor. 15:51-52) at the same time. That way whether we’re living or dead at the time of the rapture, we’ll all arrive in heaven together with immortal bodies that will last us for all eternity.
