40 Days of Prayer 2024: Day 10!

Welcome to day 10 of our 40 day challenge, and day 5 on the practice of Prayer!

(You can catch up on Day 1, Day 2 , Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6, Day 7, Day 8, and Day 9 if you missed them)

Today, we wrap up our focus on prayer.

We could use an entire month to focus on any of these practices, so these five days are just a brief time to focus on some of the practices of Jesus. For our last day on prayer, I want to bring us back to joy. We don’t do these practices in drudgery or obligation but in joy. We are seeking to become more like Jesus, training ourselves to do what we see Him doing, making ourselves available to the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in us. And while it can be hard and will be opposed, it is an absolute joy and a privilege to live our lives with Him.

The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked,
    but the prayer of the upright pleases him. Proverbs 15:8

Our prayers delight the Lord.

You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11  NKJV

And we find fullness of joy in His presence. (I had to search for a translation that had familiar wording, in your presence is fullness of joy!)

The joy and peace from our prayer time pours out onto the other areas of our lives, improving everything. Through time of intentionally climbing up on the altar and presenting ourselves as living sacrifices, we will be transformed more and more to be like Him. These practices are our part in this supernatural work that we don’t control and can’t make happen alone.

We abide on the vine, and do the things our Rabbi does, trying to be like Him. The Holy Spirit works in us, in His timeframe, and in His way.

Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.

O my soul, you have said to the Lord,
“You are my Lord,
My goodness is nothing apart from You.”
As for the saints who are on the earth,
“They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.”

Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god;
Their drink offerings of blood I will not offer,
Nor take up their names on my lips.

O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You maintain my lot.
The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Yes, I have a good inheritance.

I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will rest in hope.
10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
11 You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16 NKJV

Have a joy-filled, blessed Sabbath, and we’ll meet back here on Monday for our next practice!
