Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust

Q

Could you please advise me whether we should be buried or cremated? I have always thought that Christians must be buried as a whole body and not cremated, as this could be against God’s law. The way cemeteries are going these days (not much room), I wonder if cremation will become law. Thank you so much for your teaching, you have helped me so much.

A

The prohibition against cremation is man’s tradition, not God’s law. Genesis 3:19 says that our bodies came from the dust of the Earth and will return to it. All dead bodies quickly decay and turn to dust, so whether they’re burned or left to decay on their own the end result is the same. At the resurrection, the spirits of the dead in Christ will receive new bodies, made for eternity. This is what Paul meant by saying the dead will be raised imperishable (1 Cor. 15:52).
