The sun then stayed dark for three hours, meaning that He was both dying and apart from the Trinity. At 3:00pm He was dead. Was His reunion with the Trinity instantaneous upon his last breath? Also, when He left the grave did he leave in His physical body? I’m talking about like when He went to preach to the spirits (demons?) bound there.
The Bible does not say this clearly but I believe His reunion with the other two members of the trinity took place upon His death. As for the form in which he visited sheol (the abode of the dead) 1 Peter 3:18-20 gives us the answer.
“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit through whom he also went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago.”
I believe this means He left His physical body to visit the spiritual world in the Spirit.
