One doubt: in your question/answer – Is Dating My Late Wife’s Sister OK?
The person’s sis-in-law’s husband left her for another one. Is she really allowed to marry again?
MAT 5:31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, makes her an adulteress; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”
Please reply. Thank you.
In the Lord’s time, men were able to divorce their wives at any time for any purpose just by repeating “I divorce you” three times and giving her a certificate of divorce.
Jesus said that the only acceptable reason for ending a marriage was adultery, and that divorcing a woman for any other reason was forbidden. Whoever married an improperly divorced woman was in effect committing adultery because her husband had left her for invalid reasons and in the Lord’s eyes they were still married. I don’t believe that it was his intention to punish the innocent ex-wife of an adulterous husband by forcing her to remain single all the rest of her life.
