Comparing Zeph. 2 And Psalm 83

Q

Only since 1948 has Israel been in control of the coast lands & Ashkelon that were once ancient Philistine. Zeph 2.6-7 is finally being fully fulfilled in modern times.

Both you & Dr Fruchtenbaum have stated that Zeph 2:9 points to a time that is yet future when Israel will possess Moab & Ammon.

Zeph 2:11 talks about a future time when the Lord will famish all the world’s gods and all the nations of the world bow down to the Lord. This verse parallels quite nicely with the Ps 83:16-18 verses which will be fulfilled in the future .

These verses have been partially  fulfilled in the past, therefore they must be fully fulfilled in the future.

Do you feel that Zeph 2:11 is talking about the final fulfillment of the judgments that Asaph prayed for in Psalm 83?

A

Maybe I misunderstood your question, but I don’t believe Psalm 83:16-18 and Zephaniah 2:11 are saying the same thing.  Zephaniah 2:11 says, “The nations on every shore will worship Him (God), every one in its own land.”   To me this says all the nations of the world will worship God.

Psalm 83:16-18 only says that Israel’s victory would cause men to know that the Lord is God over all the earth, not that they will worship Him. Ezekiel 39:27-28 says that battle will have the same effect, but we know that won’t cause the whole world to worship Him either.

That will only happen after the 2nd Coming when the Lord will be recognized as the King of the whole earth (Zechariah 14:9).  That places Zephaniah 2:11 at the outset of the Millennium, long after Psalm 83 has been fulfilled.
