Did God Ordain The Nations?

Q

Is there a verse or verses in the Bible that speak to the fact that God has put kings, leaders and even nations in place?

A

There are several verses that convey that idea. Here’s a sample.

When the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when he divided all mankind, he set up boundaries for the peoples according to the number of the sons of Israel. (Deut. 32:8)

The Most High God is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and sets over them anyone he wishes. (Daniel 5:21)

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. (Romans 13:1)

Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. (1 Peter 2:13-14)

Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. (Hebrews 13:7)
