Does Everyone Go To The New Jerusalem?

Q

You have probably answered this but I am wondering if the born again believers who have already died from this century and earlier centuries, get to go straight into the new Jerusalem as the raptured believers do?

A

If you’re asking whether they all went there directly after dying, the answer is not exactly. It is true that the spirits of dead believers have gone to be with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:6-8) but I don’t think they will enter the New Jerusalem until they get resurrection bodies.

In 1 Thes. 4:13-18 Paul explained that at the rapture those who have died in Christ will receive resurrection bodies and join living believers to meet the Lord in the air. John 14:1-3 tells us we will then go to His Father’s house where He has been preparing a place for us. That place is the New Jerusalem, the eternal home of the Church, which by its description appears to be meant for physical beings, not spirits. Also, if they are already there it doesn’t make sense that they would come to Earth to get us and then return.

Therefore, I think all church age believers will enter the New Jerusalem together.
