Explaining Jeremiah 27

Q

I was just wondering if you could explain the prophecy in Jeremiah 27:19-22 for me. Was that fulfilled with Jesus or is it a 2nd coming prophecy?

A

Jeremiah 27:19-22 says,

For this is what the LORD Almighty says about the pillars, the Sea, the movable stands and the other furnishings that are left in this city, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take away when he carried Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim king of Judah into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem- yes, this is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says about the things that are left in the house of the LORD and in the palace of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem: ‘They will be taken to Babylon and there they will remain until the day I come for them,’ declares the LORD. ‘Then I will bring them back and restore them to this place.’ “

Jehoiachin (Jeconiah) was the last legitimate King of Judah and was taken into exile 11 years before the final destruction of the Temple in 586BC. God had Jeremiah tell the people that all the remaining Temple treasures would be taken to Babylon too. Nebuchadnezzar put them into a museum there. 70 years later when Cyrus the Persian conquered Babylon, he authorized the Jews to go back to rebuild Jerusalem and returned the Temple treasures to them. So this passage was fulfilled at the time of the return from Babylon.
