Q
Should a true Christian believe in gun control? Why or why not?
A
In the Bible men typically carried weapons. It was the improper use of those weapons that constituted a crime, not their possession. Weapons are neither good nor evil. It’s the person controlling the weapon that determines its use.
True Christians believe we have a personal responsibility to obey God’s law which forbids murder, theft, and other crimes that typically involve weapons. When we were a Christian nation this issue never came up. But since we no longer are, we have to replace personal responsibility with legislation to control our behavior. This approach invariably treats the symptom, not the cause, and gun control is no exception.
