Here in South Africa abortion is talked about in women’s groups but is almost never mentioned in church. Is abortion a sin even to married believers? Or only to unmarried believers who happen to impregnate themselves while they were sinning in sex?

Unfortunately, it’s the same in churches everywhere. But Psalm 51:5, Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5 all make the point that from God’s perspective life begins at conception, which makes abortion the murder of a pre-born child. Therefore, whether the couple is married or not, abortion is a sin because it violates the commandment against murder (Exodus 20:13).
