Isaiah 53, A Jewish Perspective

Q

Do the Jews accept Isaiah 53 as a valid part of the Hebrew Scriptures since it is a prophecy of Jesus? Or do they believe it was included in error?

A

The oldest known copy of the Scroll of Isaiah is prominently displayed in the Shrine of the Book, which is part of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Isaiah 53 is an obvious part of that display. Many Jews believe the references to the Messiah there are really about Israel. If you ignore the fact that the passage clearly speaks of an individual whose suffering and death brought peace with God and healing to the world, you can make an allegorical treatment approximate the facts of Israel’s history.
