Lambs Book Of Life

Q

I am truly enjoying the lessons on Revelation. However, I wanted to ask you about the two books that will be opened. You said something I had never heard, that our names are already in the Lamb’s Book of life. Can you explain further how you came to this and where I can find more on this subject? If my name is there already how come I can go through times worrying about it not being there?

A

I took this from Rev. 13:8, one of only two times the Lamb’s book of life is mentioned.  (The other is Rev. 21:27).  Admittedly, the phrase “from the creation of the world”  in Rev. 13:8 is a controversial one.  Some translators believe it refers to the Lamb who was slain, while others say it refers to “those whose names were written” there.

After studying these different opinions, I favor connecting it to  “those whose names are written,” as do a number of the modern translations.

That being the case, Rev. 13:8 would read something like this.

“and all who dwell on earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.”
