Q
From looking at men’s ages and the time of the flood, assuming I did my math right, it shows that the oldest man, Methuselah died the year of the flood. Was he also one of the sinners on earth that was killed by the flood or did he die beforehand, or can one know…and I know it probably doesn’t even matter.
A
Your math is correct, and it does matter. Methuselah died the year the flood came, but he didn’t die in the flood. He was Noah’s grandfather and His death was meant to be a sign. Roughly translated, Methuselah means “his death shall bring”. The fact that he lived longer than any other man in history is a tribute to God’s mercy. His death was God’s final warning to mankind that the judgment was coming.
