Q. There has been a lot of talk about the Isaiah 17 scenario but I was wondering if the “Burden of Moab” in Isaiah 15:1,2 could not be included in the Isaiah 17 and Psalm 83 war? I think the Moab area would be included in this conflict as well. Any comments or thoughts would be deeply appreciated.
A. Most scholars think Isaiah 15 was fulfilled in the Assyrian conquest of 715-713 BC. Ezekiel 25 also speaks of a judgment against Moab by the people of the East (Babylon). Jeremiah 27:1-11 confirms this, and Moab did disappear as a distinct people after that. But since Psalm 83, a passage that’s never been fulfilled, mentions Moab there must be more in store for the descendants of these ancient people.
