Q. In Revelation 13 where the Bible says that the anti-christ “causeth” all to receive the mark. Can you please tell me the root meaning of causeth? There’s an article online about a man receiving an info chip in his hand and chatter in the comments says no one will be forced – alluding that people might take it and not realize they’re denying the Lord by doing so.
A. The word “causeth” in Rev. 13:16 is old English for “cause” and means “to make”. Today we might say He will require everyone to receive the mark. Some translations use the word “force” in this verse.
There are those in the Church today who seem to take pleasure in scaring us by saying we can be “tricked” into condemning ourselves without knowing it. This is contrary to the character of God who has paid the ultimate price to provide salvation for everyone who desires it and doesn’t want any to perish (2 Peter 3:9).
For example the strong delusion He will send in 2 Thes. 2:9-12 is only meant to deceive those who are perishing because they refused to love the truth and be saved. And Rev. 14:6-11 tells us that just after the mark of the beast is introduced, God will send an angel to broadcast a warning against taking it to every nation, tribe, language and people. I am convinced that people who take the mark will do so knowingly and with full understanding of what they’re doing.
