Q
I often hear friends and family say that they pray for a certain sports team to win a game. I wonder if God bothers with such trivial matters, when I consider the fact that there are others who would inevitably be praying for the opposing team. Does God intervene in the affairs of mankind for matters like sports?
A
In the grand scheme of things I don’t think God cares about the outcome of our sporting events. But He does care about us, and He loves to give gifts to His children (Matt. 7:11). Helping their team win might be one of the ways He does this. How he chooses between sides in the case of people praying for both teams is beyond me. Maybe He gives both sides an exciting game, and leaves the victory to them.
