Rev. 20:12 says “And the books were opened”. Books is more than one so I take it as 2, the book of the saved and the one of them not saved. But then it says ANOTHER book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Please explain the different books and why there are more than 2 etc.
The books being spoken of in Rev. 20:12 are the ones that record all the deeds of everyone ever born. Since they contain every action of something like 12 billion people it takes more than one to hold them. There may even be a specific book for each person. The Book of Life is the one where the names of all believers are recorded. The passage is implying that no matter how many good deeds were credited to them, if their name is not also recorded in the Book of Life they won’t be saved. Since we’re talking about a judgment of unbelievers that will be the case for everyone. The only work that God requires of us is that we believe in the One He sent (John 6:28-29). Without that nothing else matters.
