The Lord’s “Seven Last Words”

Q

What are the Lord’s 7 last words from the cross?

A

The so-called “Seven Last Words” are the seven things Jesus said from the cross. They are as follows;

1) “My God, My God. Why have You forsaken Me?” (Matt. 27:46)
2) “Father forgive them, they don’t know what they do.” (Luke 23:34)
3) “Truly I say to you, today you’ll be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:42)
4) “Father, into Your hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46)
5) “(To Mary) Woman, behold your son! (and to John) Behold your mother!” (John 19:26-27)
6) “I thirst!” (John 19:28)
7) “It is finished!” (John 19:30)

Preachers sometimes build “Good Friday” messages around these 7 statements, and some believers like to meditate on them on Good Friday, because it’s the day on which Christians traditionally observe the Lord’s death.
