I recently had a friend ask me, “If the Jews rebuild a temple and offer sacrifices again at some point in the last 7 years, what Law is it that they will be observing? Will it be a return to their Mosaic Law, or will there be a ‘new law’ imposed by the anti-Christ that allows them to worship and sacrifice in this way?” I could not answer and told her I would ask you!
In Daniel’s 70 Weeks prophecy (Daniel 9:24-27) the angel told Daniel that Israel was being given 70 “weeks” to meet certain objectives. 69 of them have already passed, so there’s still one yet to come. A “week” equals 7 years, so 70 weeks equals 490 years, 69 weeks equals 483 years and the final week is the last 7 years. Therefore there are 7 years of the old covenant left in which to complete these objectives.
This means the anti-Christ will not impose a new law on Israel but will make an agreement allowing them to return to the Mosaic Law for the final seven years. This will require the construction of a Temple and the resumption of animal sacrifice.
In the middle of the seven years, he will violate the terms of this agreement and make the Temple unfit for worshiping God by making people worship an image of him instead.
