Three Essential Questions

Q

What is doing God’s Will? How do we obey the Gospel? And how do we “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven”?

A

There are two steps to doing God’s will. The first is accepting the death of His son as payment in full for our sins (John 6:40). And the second is to offer our entire being as a living sacrifice to Him. By doing this we will learn His specific will for our life as a believer (Romans 12:1-2) and will receive power to achieve it (Romans 12:3-8).

We obey the gospel by accepting by faith that the Lord’s death was payment in full for all the sins of our life and has redeemed us from death to eternal life (John 3:16). This is the work the Lord requires of us (John 6:28-29).

We lay up treasure in Heaven by giving to the Lord’s work as He prompts us in gratitude for our salvation. By doing so, we convert the treasure God has given us here into treasure in Heaven. Our generosity in doing so will determine the Lord’s generosity toward us (Luke 6:38, 2 Cor. 9:10-11).
