Two Temples In Zechariah

Q

I came across Zechariah 1: 16 “Therefore thus said the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, said the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth on Jerusalem.” I found your explanation of Shiloh as the home of the 3rd Temple really interesting especially how it would leverage peace between the Muslim and Jewish people. How does this fit with the above verse in Zechariah? Also, thank you for the post on July 14 on ‘Restoring Planet Earth’ it was awesome.

Zechariah was a young priest who returned from Babylon with the group led by Zerubabbel in 538 BC. The Temple of Zech. 1:16 was the 2nd Temple, which had not yet been built. Solomon’s temple had been destroyed by the Babylonians 70 years earlier, and a major part of Zechariah’s mission was to encourage the returning Jews to build another one. This Temple later became known as Herod’s Temple because of the massive remodeling project he did before and during the time of Jesus. It was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. The Temple in Zech. 14 is the next one, and will be built in Shiloh.
