What Happened Before Humans Came Along?

I think it is pretty easy to get the feeling reading the Bible that God really loves people and likes us to spend time with him in a personal relationship. I’m not sure but I think there is a verse about humans being created for His pleasure. Do you think that this world and time the Bible speaks of is Gods’ first or only creation? If creation was for His pleasure, what do you suppose God did for the eons before the last six thousand years?

I think the verse you’re referring to is Colossians 1:16 “… all things were created by Him and for Him.”

Some of Israel’s most revered sages have labored over Genesis 1:1. Their view is that the unique way in which the first letter of the Bible’s first Hebrew word is written is a sign that nothing before it is knowable.

To add my two cents worth, I don’t buy the editorializing that’s been done to Romans 5:12 to imply that Paul was only referring to the descendants of Adam in saying that death entered the world through his sin. They do this to justify a revision of the Gap Theory to allow for the deaths of dinosaurs and even a pre-Adamite race in the space of time between Genesis 1:1 & 1:2. This is something that the original Gap Theory proponents didn’t envision and in my view exceeds Biblical revelation without foundation.

The Bible tells us that there are ages yet to come (Ephesians 2:7) but it never makes any reference to ages that might have preceded ours, except to hint that the creation of the angels came sometime before humans (Job 38:4-7). So I guess the answer to your question is that no one but God knows and He hasn’t told us yet.
