Q. Re: Do YHWH and Allah Have The Same Meaning? I have heard that Allah means “curse” in English. Is this incorrect?
A. There is a Hebrew word spelled “alah” in English. It’s a feminine noun that can be translated “oath” or “curse” and appears 36 times in the Old Testament. But it’s not the same as the Arabic word “Allah” which as I said is a contraction of the phrase “al Ilah” that means “the god”.
