This week in Mexico 8-15-25

Here’s a glimpse of our week of outreaches in Mexico.

Happy Friday GTF fam! How has your week been?
Many of our friends all over the world have kids going back to school already, but we are still in summer mode for two more weeks here! We are deep in back-to-school prep, though! We’ve been getting with all the families and seeing who needs what, with uniforms and supplies. Uniforms are the big thing, since most times, kids will have outgrown their previous ones.
Our Escuelita
We have several kids starting prepa and secundaria this year! Closest to high school and junior high in the US, I’m not sure what they’re called elsewhere. All the kids are getting excited/nervous for their new classes, buildings, and teachers. For the kids leaving elementary school, it’ll be the first time going to school far out of the community. Secundaria is about 15 minutes north of us, and the prepa is in Rosarito, at least 30-40 minutes north. There are also no school buses in this area, so kids will often need to share taxis or try to carpool if enough families have kids at the same school.
Birthday party!
Two of our kids had birthdays this week, and neither of them has other family nearby, so we offered to turn our Saturday gathering into their birthday celebration!
Back at the escuelita
Escuelita the Park
Jade, below, was the valedictorian of her junior high and got the choice spot at the top high school in Rosarito! We are so proud of her! This means she not only got the preferred school, but she got to choose if she did morning or later afternoon/evening classes. She chose the morning. The kids who have afternoon classes often don’t get home until 8 pm, with travel time. But then she learned she’s the only one in the whole community who got into the school for morning classes, so she’ll probably have to go up alone by taxi (far cheaper than the gas and wear and tear on a car).
Grocery prep
We got the next round of groceries delivered and packed up ready to be given to families!
Railing at Israel and Ericka’s
While our crew is over at the new project, Aidan is making the stair railing for them. He’s volunteered for another ministry for years, welding, but it’s just been showing up and welding for them. This is the first time he’s had to plan and project manage the whole thing. His learning CAD software for fun years ago has come in handy!
Remember, the floor here was their roof for over a decade! That’s why you see the red waterproofing paint left over in the pics here. So it has worn over the years and had low spots where rainwater pooled. And this low spot is right where the railing is being installed, so he couldn’t make it first and install it. He has to go bit by bit, measuring and cutting each post individually due to the vastly uneven floor. It’s looking so good! I know his dad would be incredibly proud ♥
Jaime and Vanessa’s house
(you can see last week’s post to get caught up on this new project!)
Back at our current project! It’s looking so good! The guys are plastering inside and out.
Here is Jamie and their son Tiago! (short for Santiago, who is James in the Bible). Vanessa works over an hour away and doesn’t get home until late each night. They’ve worked for over a decade of their marriage, living with her parents, to include a little room off their house to have a small store so that she could stay home with their kids. And each step gets this little family closer to being together ♥
God is doing amazing things here and I’m so grateful for your prayers and support that make it possible. Thank you so much for praying with us for those we serve together! ♥
