In Acts 8:14-17, we read that the Word of God had been received in Samaria and they had been baptized in the Lord’s name but the Holy Spirit had not come upon them until John and Peter came to them and laid hands on them. Since God’s Word cannot contradict itself, what does this mean in light of passages like Ephesians 1:13-14 where we are told we are sealed with the Holy Spirit the moment we believe? I have looked at the context of this passage with regard to Simon the magician and the rest of the Samaritians, but I still feel a bit confused. It’s such an extraordinary passage and puts light on seeking the Lord for the wrong reasons and having a wrong heart. Is this the reason for the delay in the Holy Spirit?

A quick look at current events makes it obvious that the World is being turned up side down. With every day that passes, it seems like something new happens to make me wonder how much longer we can go on? Are the Birth Pangs getting stronger and stronger? Surely we must be the last generation?

My sister went to a necromancer / psychic / medium to find out if our dead and buried father is well and if he is OK. As far as I can understand the Bible, when we die we either go to heaven, to be in the presence of God, or if we’re not saved we go to Hades to await judgment. So, that means that there are no “lost souls” wondering around us on the earth. If that is true, then how can those mediums contact the dead?

Please explain to me why the Sabbath was changed to the Lord’s Day. Why did the Christian Church change the day when even our own Lord and Savior, as well as the Disciples, including Paul, honored the Sabbath?

I have two questions. A) Why should the generation Jesus mentioned in Matt. 24:34 start with the rebirth of Israel, when Jesus didn’t mention this event when describing the end-time generation? B) In other words, is your position that Israel’s re-birth appears to be the earliest chronological sign even though Jesus didn’t mention it when describing the end-time generation?

I absolutely love your site, I read it daily first thing in the morning with my cup of coffee before I start my day. I cannot count the ways that it has literally changed my life and the way I conduct myself in every aspect of my life. However, I have a question that has been nagging at me for years and I hope that you can provide an answer. If the Bible says that it is appointed for men to die but once, then why are there reports of people (along with miraculous healings) being raised from the dead as you have mentioned in other sections of your site?

How can I know which verses from the Old Testament can be applied to my life today? I used to think verses like Jeremiah 29:11 were applicable to everyone. Now I see that verse was for a specific people at a specific time and the church today often takes it out of context as if God was speaking it to us now. Since I realized this, I now question whether I’ll misinterpret other verses in the OT. I worry that I’ll believe a verse such as Proverbs 3:5-6 that says trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding is for everyone only to discover later that it wasn’t.

I happened to notice a Catholic commentary on the Scriptures, and I looked up John 3:16 to see what it had to say. What struck me was the book’s claim that the words for “eternal life” stresses the quality of life rather than the duration of life. Can you help us with what the Greek means, and how to respond to this interpretation?

In Phil. 2:17, Paul speaks of being poured out like a drink offering. What was the purpose of the drink offering? I have tried to understand the meanings of the different offerings, but this one eludes me.
