Satan In Our Minds?

Published: February 15, 2021 (Originally published: September 3, 2007)
Q

I have a question that a lot of people don’t know how to answer but I’m pretty sure you do, can the devil get into your mind or more precisely put thoughts into your mind? People get the idea that this is possible because of what Christ said.

Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

The Bible also records, in the Matthew and Mark gospels, how Jesus rebuked Peter with the same words at his suggestion that Jesus would not be raised from the dead.

Matthew 16:23. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

Where in the Bible does it indicate this being possible?

Satan In Our Minds, Follow-Up

Published: February 15, 2021 (Originally published: September 12, 2007)
Q

In response to what you wrote in ‘Satan in our minds‘, I was wondering how Satan has access to our thoughts and deeds if he isn’t omniscient or omnipresent.

In following on from this thought, I have also begun to wonder whether Satan is allowed by God, to be physically in the presence of believers – or whether having ‘Christ within’ prevents him from doing so.

Why Did The Lord Pick Judas?

Published: February 16, 2021 (Originally published: February 3, 2009)
Q

I am fairly new reading your site and enjoying it tremendously. Have a question that intrigues me. Why did Jesus choose Judas Iscariot to be His disciple? The word tells me that Jesus does nothing unless the Father does, and so I would presume that it had the Father’s okay in choosing Judas as a disciple. Having said that, and that God knows everything about each one of us, past, present and future, why? I know that the Father and Jesus do not make mistakes, so there has to be a good reason for having chosen him. Was it necessary to have him in the position to identify Jesus prior to the crucifixion? Thanks for your thoughts on this.

When Is Lying Not A Sin?

Published: February 17, 2021 (Originally published: April 5, 2008)
Q

While discussing the Bible with an Atheist, we were on the topic of sin. I explained how thru Adam, we inherited sin which my Atheist friend had some difficulty with. She felt that there are times when we have no choice but to sin. I asked her to give me an example, this is what she offered.

If a family, during WWII, was to hide a Jewish family from Nazi soldiers, and when asked by those Nazi soldiers if they know of any Jews around, and the family says no, did they lie? Would that be considered a sin since they were protecting the lives of the Jewish family? Would that family have to repent? My Atheist friend thinks this is a good example of a situation where doing the right thing should not be considered a sin, thus, there are gray areas to God’s commandments. How would you respond to this example?

Does God Hear The Sinner’s Prayer?

Q

If the Bible says in John 9:31 that Gods does not hear sinners then where does it say that He hears our prayer for forgiveness and acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior?

Can you help me with the following question, who is Lucifer or Satan, can you provide me a biblical understanding? I was reading an article and it said Lucifer was only mentioned one time in the Bible but we seem to glean that he and Satan are one in the same?

Acts Of Nature Or Judgments From God?

Published: March 8, 2011 (Originally published: March 7, 2011)
Q

I know that God has used nature in the past to bring his judgments upon man. Do you believe that the judgments in Revelation (seal, trumpet, and bowl) will be “natural enough” or “logical enough” that they can be explained away by man as just acts of nature? Or, do you believe they will be so supernatural that they can only be explained as acts of God?

Sir Isaac Newton’s 2060 Prophecy

Published: March 20, 2011 (Originally published: March 19, 2011)
Q

Thank you for such a great site! Since Isaac Newton has predicted the world’s end in 2060, do you think it may be possible that the Rapture may not come till around that time? I say this because of two things. One, Brother Newton was a genius and instead of a generation being 40 to 70 years, it may actually be 120 years. Moses had three 40 year periods… Egypt, Midian period and wandering in the desert. It took Noah 120 years to build the ark and then God closed the door. The Rapture of the saints is a type of door closing also, which is based on that very last person being saved and only God knows the number. However, we don’t know the time or date for the Rapture, so can it be that a generation is a 120 years. From 1948, 120 years, minus 7 will be very close to 2060. This is only a thought and I hope I am wrong. We should always be a watchman on the wall.

Pearls Before Swine

Published: March 22, 2014 (Originally published: March 18, 2011)
Q

I belong to an online art group where millions are members. Many are believers but many others are not. Recently there’s been contention over the plight of the Japanese people. Believers are encouraging everyone to pray and unbelievers are saying prayer doesn’t help. Most folks would say, “just ignore those nay-sayers and keep praying”. But I feel strongly that as a Christian, I shouldn’t feel the need to shut up and hide and should say something. What do think about this?
