Q. I have been a believer in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord since my early twenties. Off and on through out my life I have had episodes where I’ve done things and not remembered doing them. One episode was particularly bad and resulted in making trouble for me at my job. Because of it I began therapy with a psychologist who gave me a diagnosis of DDNOS. It’s not a very clear way to diagnose someone but to me it meant I have different personalities in my mind that may for short periods take over my mind and behavior. I know that some churches believe strongly that this is a form of demon possession. Jesus who was accused of being possessed stated ‘ a house divided cannot stand’ or a Christian believer who is indwelt by the Holy Spirit cannot also be possessed by a demon. I need to know what you believe about all of this and/or about multiple personality disorder. It is very hard for me to ask you this as the idea of being possessed terrifies me. Thank you as always for your help and your web site.
A. I’m not an expert in this area, so this is just my opinion from studying the Bible. I think believers can suffer demonic attacks, and can come under demonic oppression. But I don’t believe we can be possessed by demons. We are the Lord’s Temple and I don’t see how He could share His Temple with His enemy.
