In a question about ISIS (the Islamic State) you referenced Daniel 11:40 which says in part, “The King of the North will storm against him with chariots, horseman, and many ships”. Will ‘chariots’ and ‘horseman’ be used in today’s technology world, so to speak, if this is speaking of the times we are in now?
Even when offering end times prophecy, the Bible’s writers always described weaponry in terms that were familiar during their time. I believe this is due to the fact that prophecy had to be understood by it’s readers for thousands of years.
Much of our modern weaponry has only been in use for 100 years or so. Had the prophets used the modern names for this weaponry, generations of readers would not have been able to understand what they were talking about.
On the other hand we can easily take the ancient names and convert them to their modern equivalents. For example, soldiers don’t ride into battle on horses and chariots today, they use helicopters and personnel carriers.
