Come Out Of Her My People

Q

Many are using the scripture “And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. (Revelation 18:4 NKJV) as a reason to not go to church. What is the actual meaning of this verse, and is this an appropriate use of it?

A

I might be the wrong person to ask because I was one of those people. I had been a life long member of a large liberal denomination when I was born again at age 40. One morning as I was walking to church I heard what sounded like the audible voice of the Lord quoting Rev. 18:4 to me.

From the recorded studies I had been devouring, I knew that this verse describes people who belong to the Lord being called out of Babylon before He destroys the city at the end of the Great Tribulation. Nevertheless, I stopped going to that church and found a non-denominational church that focused on teaching the Bible and worshiping God.
