Get Married Or Move Out

Q

My younger sister, who loves the Lord, has allowed her youngest son (21) & his girlfriend to live together in her house for years. Now she says God is telling her to stop it. She asked me what to do. I told her that if she is hearing from God, she’d better obey. My sister is afraid to “cut the apron strings” because her son is on her medical insurance and he can’t afford a place of his own. What do you think?

To me this sounds pretty simple. If your sister believes God is telling her to require her son to either get married to his live in girlfriend or move out, she should obey Him. Besides, it’s her house and she’s paying the bills, so she gets to make the rules.

Since her son and his girlfriend have been living together as husband and wife for years it shouldn’t be that big a deal for them to get married. If they can’t afford to live anywhere else, getting married seems like a small accommodation to make out of gratitude for her generosity.

If your sister is allowing this situation to keep her son on her insurance illegally, then she is knowingly participating in a fraudulent act. If so, every claim the insurance company pays on her son’s behalf could be considered as theft.

Romans 8:28 tells us God is working everything together for the good of those who love Him. Responding in faith to His instructions will result in blessings for your sister, her son and his girlfriend.
