In Matthew 6:3 what did Jesus mean when saying, “do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing” when giving to the needy?

In Matt. 6:1-4 Jesus was talking about giving in secret. Obviously it’s impossible to do something with your right hand that your left hand doesn’t know about, so what He was saying is that we should be so secretive in our giving that if it was possible our left hand wouldn’t know what our right hand was doing. We should be this careful to avoid any possibility that someone would see what we’re doing and give us credit for it. He said once we receive credit for something on Earth we’ve disqualified ourselves from getting any credit in Heaven, and it’s credit in Heaven that really counts.
