Hasn’t This Already Happened?

Q

Re: Will we see Satan’s defeat? How does your answer fit in with Jesus stating that “I saw Satan fall like lightening from heaven” in Luke 10:18? Who then are the 1/3 of the angels cast out and hasn’t Satan been tossed to Earth and is currently under restriction? Are not the demons these fallen angels? Hasn’t the angelic war previously happened?

A

If you believe, as I do, that from chapter 4 to its end the Book of Revelation describes events that are still in our future then the things you describe can not have happened. Jesus was speaking prophetically in Luke 10:18, indicating that Satan’s destiny had already been determined.

Rev. 12 gives the order of events. At Satan’s rebellion, some time in the past, 1/3rd of the angelic host rebelled with him. At the birth of the Lord Satan was standing by with the intent of destroying Him, and thought he had succeeded, but God raised Him from the dead and took Him to heaven (Rev. 12:3-5).

At the beginning of the Great Tribulation the remnant of Israel will be taken into the desert to be protected from Satan for its duration (1260 days). At that time there will be war in Heaven and Satan and his forces will lose their access and will be confined to Earth (Rev. 12:7-9) where they will try unsuccessfully to destroy the Jewish remnant (Rev. 12:13-16).
