Mary’s Post Resurrection Life And Death

Q

I believe you may have addressed this question before, but I did not keep it if you did. Lately I have been getting a lot of questions about Christ’s Earthly mother, Mary. All of my references are vague on her ministry and death. Does anyone know for certain how Mary died, natural death or martyrdom?

A

The Bible is silent where the post resurrection life of Mary is concerned. Its final mention of her is in Acts 1:14. From John 19:26-27 we know that the Lord gave her into the care of the Apostle John. Some Catholics believe Mary didn’t die at all but was taken alive into heaven, but there’s no Biblical evidence to support that.

I have personally visited two graves purported to be Mary’s final resting place. One is in the Kidron Valley in Jerusalem near the entrance to the Garden of Gethsemane, and the other is in Turkey near the ancient city of Ephesus. It is known that John spent time there, and Mary could have been with him. I’m not aware of any source that would indicate her death was due to anything other than natural causes.
