Regarding Apparitions

Q. I don’t know much about them (apparitions) but I know that those in Fatima, Lourdes & Medugorie were first witnessed by children. If these apparitions are from the devil, why would the Lord allow innocent children to be deceived and deceive so many people? We are told that to children belongs the kingdom of God, we are to accept faith like children and most important of all, the angels of the children behold the face of God (Matthew 18:5-10).

A. Children are naive and impressionable, it’s true. But it wasn’t until adults confirmed them that these events gained merit. God gave us stewardship over our children and holds us responsible for them, so don’t put the blame at His feet. The adults who had the responsibility to teach these children the truth failed them and are responsible. A few verses after He told us to change and become as little children, He warned us that “whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Matt. 18:6)

Since the Fall, man has sought to free himself from God’s oversight, except of course when something bad happens. Then man says, “Why does God allow this?”
