The EU And The 7 Year Treaty

Q

I live in the U.K. and was recently listening to a program on the God channels.

The topic under discussion was end time prophecies.

I nearly fell out of my chair when the guest commented that within the European Community, there is a “select” group of ten nations, and that this number would never be increased. He also stated that some sort of military agreement had been signed by Israel and this group of 10 nations, commencing in 2007.

I realize that there is danger in developing a whole scenario of prophecy around isolated events, but if it’s true, we’d better fasten our seat belts.

Do you have any information regarding this group of 10 and this supposed military alliance?

In some ways, it is logical that Satan and the Antichrist would not commit to such things with a great fanfare, thus alerting believers to the gathering storm clouds!

A

There are only 10 full members of the EU. All other countries are associate members or are in some other subordinate stage of membership. These 10 permanent members are called the Western European Union (WEU) or the Brussels Treaty Powers. They have assumed responsibility for developing the EU’s military forces following provisions of their Recommendation 666 (I’m not kidding.)

Beginning in January of 2007 the European Union enters into a seven year budget plan based on EU leader Javier Solana’s European Neighborhood Policy (ENP). This is seen as his attempt to revive his 12 year old Euro-Med plan that links the EU together with 12 Mediterranean countries through economic “action plans.” Both Israel and the Palestinian Authority are included.

Apparently much of this policy is being kept secret, but some students of prophecy see it as possibly being the fulfillment of Daniel’s 70th Week prophecy about a seven year covenant. (Daniel 9:24-27)

There’s one important factor to keep in mind through all of this. Implied in Daniel’s prophecy is the rebuilding of a Temple, because in the middle of the seven years the anti-Christ desecrates it. The only reason for a Temple is to worship God in an Old Covenant fashion.

Today in Israel the vast majority is opposed to having a Temple built there, so before Daniel’s 70th week can begin there has to be a huge shift of public and private opinion. Israel has to wake up to hear God’s call to them and officially demand a Temple. The Battle of Ezekiel 38-39 is designed to accomplish that. So if Solana’s ENP is the treaty spoken of by Daniel, and if it’s set for implementation on Jan 2007 then Ezekiel’s Battle has to happen right now. I don’t think that’s likely.

If the ENP is a run-up to Daniel’s 70th week, a more likely scenario would be some sort of partial implementation, with some provisions set aside until a later time when the anti-Christ confirms (enforces) them after Israel has been attacked as foretold in Ezekiel 38 and the Moslem coalition defeated. The way things are going, we won’t have long to wait to see how it turns out.
