I was wondering in Psalm 138:7 what is the significance of saying God would save us with His RIGHT hand. Did that mean something to the Hebrews?
The right hand was considered the favored one. For most people it was the stronger one. If you’re saved by God’s right hand, you’re saved by all of His strength.
The right hand also symbolizes propriety, whereas a left handed compliment, for example, may have a suspicious or insincere motive. Being saved by God’s right hand means there’s no trickery or subterfuge involved.
Standing at the right side of a dignitary is considered the place of honor, often reserved for the heir apparent or closest associate. When Jesus ascended into Heaven He sat at the right hand of Majesty. (Matt. 26:64) If you’re saved by God’s right hand, you’re saved by Jesus, His right hand man.
