Who’s To Bless And Who’s To Blame?

Q

Psalm 91 promises protection to the point of not even “stubbing your toe”.  I see Christians everyday struggling with every type of ailment Satan can come up with. I myself have been a man who follows the direction of holy spirit every day and when I fail I ask for forgiveness. But never the less I am in pain continually. Why does God give such a promise as this psalm. I find that non believers can point to this psalm and ask, “Where is this protection God has promised?”

A

I can tell you’re frustrated, but you should remember that God doesn’t break promises, nor does He fail to fulfill His obligations. If something isn’t working in the relationship, we can’t point fingers at Him as the culprit. The problem has to be with us.

A vast majority of Christians today has no idea of what it means to be among those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, which is who the promise of Psalm 91 was given to. We’re so accustomed to going our own way and doing our own thing we can’t tell the difference. Almost every day I hear from Christians blaming God for things He would never bring upon us instead of considering the possibility that the problem doesn’t lie with Him.

I’m not just talking about the habitual sinners among us, although we all sin to a far greater extent than we imagine. The food we eat, the beverages we drink, even the air we breathe are contaminated with poisons He never intended for us to ingest. The debt load we carry and the stress we experience in our daily living are things he consistently warned us against. Even the drugs we take for our ailments are foreign to our bodies and often contribute to our problems. These are all part of our man made environment. It’s a tribute to God that we survive as well as we do.

Please don’t misunderstand. I’m not trying to downplay your situation. Neither am I suggesting that you’re the one to blame. But I am saying that by blaming God for our situation we’re accusing the innocent and giving the guilty a free pass.
