This week in Mexico 6-26-26

Here’s a glimpse of our week of outreaches in Mexico.

Happy weekend, GTF fam! ♥ I’m so excited to share our outreach in Mexico with you this week! Oscar, one of the guys on our crew, and dad to the twins of our escuelita, had his second of three injections into his eye for a blocked retinal vein, and he is so grateful for all the prayers! It’s a scary procedure, but he’s almost done!

Rubi

God takes care of the widows and the fatherless! We have been praying for the ability to help Rubi in a future project. The previous owner of the big apartment building in the background of the pic below allowed her to use his wall for her sewing workshop. But he sold it, and the new owner is demanding that she demolish it all. We are praying for both favor with this new owner and the ability to help Rubi. (Many will remember her from before, scroll down to see our update and prayer request when she lost her church and her income after the Lord healed her son. )

And in the meantime, the Lord prompted someone already, ahead of that, to send some help directly to her! She cried and said she had specific bills she had been praying for help with, right when this help came. Thank you, Jesus! ♥

Project: Menita

We are building a ramp/path for this widowed grandma below. Our guys are pouring the concrete for the ramps right now, as I type this, so I’ll have pics of the completed ramp for you next time! She is the sweetest woman, and I’m so grateful we can help her!

In the pic below, you can see the door to her room on the left, and the bathroom on the right.

A load of sand and gravel for the concrete

Clearing the path

We cut strips of plywood to create forms for pouring the concrete path.

Building the forms

The plywood strips create the form to pour the concrete path. Then, we’ll place rebar and mesh to provide the structure for the concrete. When we’re done, she’ll have basically a long concrete sidewalk that will allow her to walk safely up to the road and then down home again

Below you can see really well the last part that takes her up to the road.

Potential add-on for Menita

When we begin a project, we know there will often be some additional needs or adjustments once we get into it.

I always remember one of our very first home projects, where we were asked to help repair a bad roof. When Jack and I went to see it, the wood was so badly damaged that it took us a while to realize they were missing an entire wall of the home! An entire side of the house was only carpet hung from the roof. It’s usually not this extreme, but we keep it in mind before we start, and we pray for all the unknowns. We don’t know the whole scope before we begin, but the Lord does!

As we began clearing this project for Menita, we saw the condition of her bathroom. It looked like it could be hard for her to use the shower safely with her age and injury. But when we asked her about it, she said the walk outside to the bathroom was the hardest for her. It can’t be enclosed, because her granddaughter and great-grandson live on the property as well, and they all use the bathroom. But our guys saw the possibility of opening a wall between her room and the bathroom. So we’re looking into what that would take.

This is her studio apartment. It’s below where her granddaughter and her granddaughter’s young son live. Menita’s daughter lives in the community about 5 minutes away and takes care of the son while the daughter works long hours. This leaves Menita alone most of the time, which makes it even more important that she can leave on her own.

In the pic below, one of our guys is showing where the wall could be opened up so she could enter the bathroom without going outside.

When Aidan was there taking measurements for the railing, I had him check whether she had room for us to install a safety grab handle, and there’s plenty of room under the window! That’s something we can do even before figuring out walls and doorways!

Grocery delivery

The delivery truck broke down on the way, so our crew went to help unload the groceries and bring them to us!

Two of the widowed moms in the community saw the delivery van and asked if they could have groceries asap, so we quickly made up bags for them first before bagging up the rest

All bagged up and ready to be delivered!

First delivery stop!

We’ll be making it to the other communities tomorrow, so I’ll have those pics for you next time!
