Happy Friday, GTF fam! :hearts:

I’m so excited to share our outreaches with you!

Our kids group: Escuelita

We’ve had such fun times with our kids, reading our children’s Bibles, running and playing, doing crafts and paintings, and just letting them be kids! Here are some glimpses of our time with them.

Groceries to families in need!

At the refugee camp

The camp was deserted for a while, but new refugees have arrived. At first, this new group was quite suspicious of us, until they saw that in addition to groceries, we had snacks! And we even bought extra this time! So the Lord made sure we were prepared, and He used snacks to soften the hearts of people who had grown suspicious of kindness, having lost everything and having been treated poorly everywhere they went afterward.

Still, many of them didn’t want to be in photos, which we never push for and fully understand. One of them shared her story about being a nurse in Haiti before the devastating earthquake. She had a beautiful life, was successful and respected. And then she lost everything: her family, home, work, and eventually her country. Like many others, she went to Brazil, where she found work, although not in her field of training, and began to rebuild her life. And then the area she was in became unstable and unsafe. So she left with others fleeing the area and eventually ended up here. My heart breaks for all of them. Having to flee and lose everything multiple times. And now they’ve ended up in this camp, still nowhere near the life they want for themselves and their families.

But snacks! You never know what God can use to reach people. Groceries are obviously the necessity. But when everything is so hard, sometimes God shows His love for you by bringing small delights to brighten your day.

More groceries, snacks, and school supplies!

When we brought groceries here the last time, they mentioned some other kids who also needed school supplies, so we made sure to bring them (plus extras in case). Children growing up in poverty already know that they are sometimes left out. So we try hard to ensure that we have extras, so that each child who shows up feels like God made sure they were included.

Groceries to Rubi

Many of you will know Rubi. She has been through so much and is the sweetest person. For those who don’t know her, she is a widow we’ve brought groceries to for years. She is a seamstress, and used to get most of her work from her church. It still wasn’t enough to cover all her family’s needs, but with help, she was ok. A couple of years ago, they had a visiting speaker who came to her after and said she thought the Lord wanted her to pray for Rubi’s son. Her son had been suffering from debilitating migraines since he was small. He had even been hospitalized with the pain. After this woman prayed for him, he was set free and hasn’t had another since! Unfortunately, this caused problems for her with her church. They were upset, and instead of rejoicing that he had been healed, they were angry and kicked Rubi out of the church! This is devastating for anyone, but it was especially hard for her because she relied on the work they sent her way to support them. We gathered around her, praying and helping her through this transition. And she now has a new church home, and the Lord has been replacing the income she lost. ♥

These girls below are so precious to us. ♥When their mom was sick and unable to work, the oldest, on the left (14) began working at a little store nearby, to be able to pay the utilities. It wasn’t enough to cover food, and thankfully, we were able to help with that!

And our last stop!

Our project house, Jaime and Vanessa

Our guys are just finishing up the plastering today! Plastering is hard work, especially in the bright, hot sun we’ve had lately. Today has been misty and overcast, which helps a great deal. Next, we’ll figure out how to close the top of the stairs for them so it stays dry, and they’ll still have the option in the future to add a second story if their family grows and they need to. This is their prayer, and it’s been a blessing to be a part of helping this mom be with her son (and any future babies God has in store for them!)
