This week in Mexico 8-27-22

Here’s a glimpse of our week of outreaches in Mexico.

Update on Jaqui!

She’s home! The donation boxes that had blankets also had some pillows and towels! We were able to give some to Jaqui for extra bedding now that her mom is here, and she and Miguel are both home from the hospital too.

She has a follow-up on Tuesday to hear the test results and the next treatment course. They did have to do a full radical hysterectomy, removing the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Because the cancer is on the outside of the organs, they didn’t know till the surgery how much they would have to remove.

But she’s home and (kind of) resting! She says she feels pretty good, all things considered. She’s not staying in bed as much as she should though.

Her husband took me aside as I was leaving and just cried. Through the tears, he was trying to thank all of you for praying and for your support. So from him, and from me, THANK YOU!!

Grocery prep

Packing up the truckloads of groceries into bags for families is a big task. Thankfully we always have a handful of people to help, and we make a day of it! We do this at least twice a month and I’m always so grateful for all the food we can give out!

Back in the early days of grocery distribution, we bought flour and beans and rice in giant 50 lb bags and we would spend a full week portioning out, pound by pound, for families. When our giving grew, the store offered discounts for individual packages so we could have the already portioned out! Every time we do this, we are grateful for not having to scoop flour and beans and rice for weeks at a time.

Groceries to the refugees

Awww the little ones! ♥ Last year this time, there were only six. And we knew them by name along with everyone else at the camp. But now, there are new people each time we come. This time there is a whole group of pregnant women. It’s an overwhelming amount of need. It’s broken of us any illusion that we can take care of everyone. But that breaking is still a terrible thing for the heart! So we pray and keep them where they belong, out of our hands into those of Jesus.

We do make sure to bring treats still for the kids!

Kids group—last week before school starts!

School starts on Monday! The kids are excited and a bit nervous. Thank you everyone who has helped with uniforms! We’ve been told they’ll be late… but the school knows, and it’ll be ok. There’s only one place that has the correct colors now. Different schools choose different colors, and before covid, there were a few choices. Now there’s just one place, and they are behind. Back to after-school help again next week!

Thank you so much for praying with us for those we serve together!
