Wilderness Temptation. Follow Up

Published: May 22, 2023 (Originally published: May 5, 2012)
Q

In your post “The Wilderness Temptation”, you say “All of Satan’s temptations were an effort to get Jesus to take back His Godhood, and that would have compromised His mission.” How did Satan know that if Jesus took back his Godhood, His mission would be compromised?

What Did Satan Understand?

Published: May 22, 2023 (Originally published: May 5, 2012)
Q

I am trying to piece together from Scripture what Satan understood of Jesus’ purpose in taking a human body and living among us. I understand that Satan knew who Jesus was. In Matthew 8:29, the demons call Jesus Son of God. I also understand from 1 Corinthians 2:8 that Satan didn’t know what Jesus would accomplish on the cross. I have to believe since Jesus told His disciples many times that He would die and be raised the third day, that Satan also knew this. So what did Satan understand of Jesus’ mission?

Jesus, Mary, and John

Published: May 23, 2023 (Originally published: May 5, 2012)
Q

I have a question regarding Mary, the mother of Jesus. I can not understand why Jesus would tell John to take care of his mother when she had other children to do that job. I heard that Mary went with John to Turkey where he had a church and she died there. Could you please clarify this because we have the book of James the half brother of Jesus who was a believer so why did not he take care of his mother? Do we know the whole story about this?

The Fig Tree Of Matt. 24:32

Published: May 23, 2023 (Originally published: May 6, 2012)
Q

Recently I heard a pastor argue that the fig tree in Matt. 24:32 does not represent Israel. He says Israel was described as an olive tree when the Church was grafted in. Is that true?

To Whom Was He Speaking?

Re: Luke 21:34-36 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” I know that those who are to “pray that they may be considered worthy” are not members of the Church. To whom did Jesus address this scripture?

Saying Jesus Is Lord

Published: May 25, 2023 (Originally published: May 10, 2012)
Q

I have a question about 1st Cor. 12:3. I have a lot of associates who believe that because certain pastors say that Jesus is Lord, that they must be genuine because this verse says only by His spirit are you able to say that. Yet it is clear that some of these pastors, namely prosperity types, have nothing to do with the Lord at all. Can you explain this please, and other verses like it, so people won’t be deceived?

Q

I have recently been having a heated discussion re Mark 11.23 in regards to what exactly is the mountain that is mentioned in this passage? It is obviously not literal. Is this passage a teaching on positive confession doctrine or something else?
