Faith And Works

Published: November 16, 2021 (Originally published: November 20, 2013)
Q

I have a question regarding OSAS. Where do the scriptures regarding “faith without works are dead” and “you say you believe, the devil believes also and trembles” come in? To me they are saying that only belief is required for the initial act of receiving salvation, but after having received salvation there are expectations that must be met in order to maintain it. In other words you can’t just say I believe and let it go at that. I’m just trying to piece all this together and get a correct understanding.Your assistance is very much appreciated.

OSAS And Mature Believers

Published: November 17, 2021 (Originally published: November 1, 2012)
Q

I believe in Once Saved Always Saved, but I hear from some people that when you are a mature believer, you have the choice to “leave the house” and forfeit your salvation and be damned. God is not going to let an immature believer leave the house, since he does not know any better, but when he or she knows about departing from God, he can make the choice and go to hell. Does the Bible truly say when you are a mature believer, you can walk away and be damned?

Can We give It Back?

Published: September 20, 2008 (Originally published: September 19, 2008)
Q

My pastor and I were discussing the issue of OSAS. He doesn’t ever want to push this to find out, but he wonders if one could walk away from what God has done for them. The Bible does say that no one can snatch us out of God’s hand, but what does it say in relation to us throwing away God’s gift? Can we willingly walk away from God’s grace and lose our salvation? Just curious to your thoughts.

How Can She Go In The Rapture?

Published: August 8, 2014 (Originally published: August 7, 2014)
Q

I want to ask about my 29 yr old who was always the most loving, hugging child & she loved Jesus with her whole being, always participating in youth groups and other church related programs. Over the years she has morphed to where I could never have chosen. She is totally turned off by Christianity/the church of today. She blames the fall of a well known creationist for her loss of faith in Christianity and the Bible, including teachings of creation vs. evolution. She now believes that science based philosophies/theories are more provable, visible & believable than the Bible. I agree with your position on OSAS and know the word says that if you bring up a child up in the way they should go, in the end they will not depart from it, but how can she renounce her faith & still be saved & go in the rapture?

Does Hebrews 6 Deny OSAS?

Published: August 7, 2020 (Originally published: August 2, 2006)
Q

Does Hebrews 6 deny the Once Saved Always Saved principle? In Hebrews 6:4-6 it says “For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify the Son of God for themselves again, and put him to open shame.” Does this mean people can lose their salvation? If not, what does it mean?

Who Keeps The Sheep?

Published: May 13, 2022 (Originally published: May 8, 2009)
Q

Last Sunday our pastor was preaching on Psalm 23 and part of his message hit me as another answer to the OSAS issue. He said that when the Psalm refers to the security of a sheep in the Shepherd’s care “for His name’s sake”, it is referring to the fact that sheep are by nature unable to care for themselves and will wander into trouble, and when they do, it’s the shepherd’s responsibility to rescue them.

A Race To The Finish?

Published: October 26, 2020 (Originally published: October 25, 2012)
Q

Re: OSAS And 1 Tim. 4:1 I believe that one can backslide and be lost like Judas if they don’t continue in the faith . Remember, this is a race and those that endure till the end will be saved. Judas was written in the book of life but was blotted out, whereas Peter backslid then repented was restored and found salvation through the new birth. Read Luke 10:17-20. Matthew 26: 69-75 and 2Tim.4:6-9. And what of all those we know that have left their faith and no longer serve Christ but live ungodly lives but still believe in Christ are they still saved?

Intercession

Published: September 28, 2022 (Originally published: January 2, 2016)
Q

I firmly believe in OSAS and that Christ paid for all our sins (past present and future) . So my questions is as Jesus is sitting on the right hand of God interceding for us, what is He interceding for since our sins are already paid for and forgiven?
