You write often about eternal security, OSAS. Scripturally, I agree with you. But if we are eternally sealed when we are born again and the devil cannot snatch us from Christ’s grasp, what is his end game, just our misery?

I’ve heard John 5:1-14 used as an argument against OSAS. It’s talking about Jesus healing the lame man. Jesus said in the second part of verse 14, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” What did he mean,”lest a worse thing come upon you.”

On the surface it looks like 1 Cor. 6:9-10 is stating that there are sins that could take our salvation away. Will people who rate those titles, perform those actions, or walk those lifestyles not be admitted to heaven? Or is there some other truth in that passage? If so, what is this passage really trying to tell us?

First I wanted to thank you for your awesome website. It is very clear that you thoroughly study God’s work and have a good understanding of it. And you have been a tremendous help in motivating me in my walk with the Lord.

Having said that I would like to ask for clarification on your view of suicide. You had stated in answering a previous question that you believed that if a person committed suicide and had previously received the gift of salvation, that person would spend eternity with God. Having been raised Pentecostal, the Once Saved Always Saved belief has not been something I would say I have believed in, but the way you describe it and back it up with scripture, I am tending to believe you have valid points.

Until we get to the issue of suicide. I am having a hard time believing that this is not a sin that will keep you out of heaven. If you are right, then, we Christians could always take the easy way out when things got tough. We could say “I’m ready to be with Jesus, and tired of this world” and take our life, and instantly be with him. That is the one area I have come across that is preventing me from getting completely ‘onboard’ your belief, of OSAS.

My question is simply, how do we reconcile eternal security, (Once Saved Always Saved) with verses like “work out your salvation through fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12). My pastor whom I love very much and support does not believe in OSAS and he brought up this scripture in making that defense.

My friend is a member of (a major Denomination) and her brother-in-law is the preacher of that church. Recently we were discussing the issue of Eternal Salvation and she pointed me to 2 Peter 2:20, “For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.”

While I realize this verse is discussing false prophets should my argument be that this verse is talking about non-believers? Isn’t it possible for a false prophet to be saved and just simply become a false prophet through deception? Her comment to me was that if a person returns to their sin and doesn’t turn back to God before they die, remaining in that sin always then surely they have lost their salvation. Is it true that a person that remains in their sin probably wasn’t saved in the first place or are they saved carnal Christians? I thought I was secure in my salvation by faith. I was recently told, however, that 2Peter 2:21-22 proved that I could lose that assurance. Is that possible? Now I’m concerned about this. Please advise me on this. Thank you so much.

I have a question about James 5:19-20. It would seem to indicate that someone could taste death by their sinning. In other words, if the person wasn’t turned away from their sin, they would taste death. Yet I know that we are forgiven when we ask. How does this get rectified?

Regarding OSAS, I believe many people wonder. What about repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. I read “I repented before I knew the meaning of the word. I have repented far more since than I did then”. How do you compare “Believe on the Lord Jesus” and “repentance”? That’s not talked about much.
