I have been following and loving your website for a long time and I truly agree with what you are saying about the topic of eternal security. Once saved, always saved or “OSAS”. Today I came across an article that shook my belief in OSAS somewhat. I am wondering what you think about this?

OSAS That Isn’t Really OSAS

Published: June 24, 2022 (Originally published: June 2, 2008)
Q

You are an amazing man of God and I appreciate what Christ is doing through you and your ministry. My question or comment is on eternal security, also called once saved, always saved: OSAS.

Let me first state that I fundamentally believe that we are saved by what we believe and not how we behave. I think that scripture makes that pretty clear.

But I believe we have to be careful how we disseminate that truth to others, and I think that is what has been the BIG problem in the OSAS doctrine. People have put it out there like, “Hey, say a prayer, you’re saved, and live the way you want. Don’t worry, God has forgiven you.”

We have to make sure that people understand that God paid a price to make a change in us “a new creation” and that is something special and beautiful. Does the change take some time and work? Yes, but that is where the Holy Spirit comes in to help us – to convict us! If the person is not feeling the conviction of the Holy Spirit, then all they did is rattle off a prayer and there was no change.

OSAS should not be used as a scapegoat for their behavior. That is making a mockery of our Lords gift. Yes, I believe OSAS if there is a true confession and conversion!

Do you believe that the OSAS doctrine has been misunderstood, and if so what can we do as literal bible believing followers of Christ to change that misunderstanding?

OSAS, Really? Follow Up

Published: August 19, 2021 (Originally published: August 6, 2012)
Q

After reading OSAS,Really? and many of your other responses concerning OSAS, I can’t help but wonder why some “Christians” still have a hard time understanding our eternal security. Its a simple concept and is backed by strong unrefuted verses. I have discussed this with some believers who don’t believe in OSAS and they never refute the verses that support OSAS outright but instead refer to other verses. Is it because they are really unbelievers who haven’t genuinely accepted Christ alluding to the possibility that they haven’t been born again, therefore spiritually dead, or is it simply a lack of understanding intellectually?

OSAS After The Rapture?

Q

Having just read your interpretation of the ‘Parable of the Talents’, I have a question for you.

You explain that this parable refers to those who bury the word of God, and therefore lose appreciation for its value and consequently their insight. If they are followers of Christ does OSAS still apply?

OSAS And Backsliders

Published: December 21, 2013 (Originally published: March 7, 2008)
Q

People who don’t believe in OSAS describe those who were once saved but have fallen away from the faith as being back sliders. From the perspective of OSAS, is there any such thing as a back slider? If so, how would you describe it?

Can A Person Who Denies OSAS Be Saved?

Published: August 18, 2014 (Originally published: August 19, 2014)
Q

The subject of OSAS came up in an internet group I belong to. The group leaders say they believe in OSAS and I definitely agree with that. But they say if a born again believer thinks a Christian could walk away from God, then they don’t believe the whole truth of the Bible, are making God out to be a liar and therefore, they are lost. I personally don’t believe a person is lost just because they don’t subscribe to OSAS just as I don’t believe a person is lost if they believe in a mid-trib rapture. What do you think?

OSAS Anthology

Published: May 1, 2017 (Originally published: July 3, 2014)

The doctrine of eternal security, or OSAS (once saved always saved) is one of the most hotly debated topics in all of Christianity. Did the Lord’s death really pay for all the sins of our life, thereby guaranteeing a place in Heaven for all born again believers?

Or, are we responsible for the sins we commit after we become born again, running the risk that our post salvation behavior can cause God to rescind his promise to save us?

And if God will not rescind His promise, can we walk away from our relationship with Him and effectively forfeit our salvation?

You’ll find the answers to these and other questions in this book, as well as Biblical answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about OSAS.

OSAS and Living for Jesus

Published: September 23, 2015 (Originally published: September 26, 2015)
Q

I know I am saved by grace through faith and Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I know my citizenship is in heaven and I am living for Jesus from heaven to earth (Colossians 3:3-4). I just feel like I have to be careful not to indulge in sin or drift away so I will “stay saved”, or stay a new creation in Christ or make sure that my spirit, soul and body is sanctified. It is this constant fear of going to hell that bombards me if I choose to live in sin or walk in the flesh (which I strive to live in the spirit). I want to live for Jesus since I am his son and I want to please him and serve him, but I feel like this issue of OSAS and Losing Salvation gets in the way of living for Jesus. I am so focused on that instead of living for Jesus and serving him because I do not want to find out that I can lose my salvation and it will be too late. I know there are scriptures on eternal security for the church age but I just do not want to be wrong since I have noticed about 95% of the church teaches you have to stay saved (and I get tired of arguing with them about it).

OSAS And Rev. 22:19

Published: May 16, 2023 (Originally published: May 25, 2013)
Q

I am a believer in eternal security (OSAS), however, sometimes I run into verses I cannot explain, like Rev 22:19. It seems to imply our names can be removed from the Book of Life. What is your take on this verse and its meaning? How does it fit in with OSAS? What would be taking away from the prophecy of this book?

OSAS And Jude

Q

I don’t believe your views on OSAS. There is no such thing as once saved always saved. If that was true no one would backslide and the Lord wouldn’t give us so many warnings to stay saved. Just 2 of many scriptures to this effect are Jude 1:.5-6. & 20-21. What do you think ?
