OSAS And Romans 8:38-39

Published: August 11, 2020 (Originally published: February 25, 2014)
Q

I noticed that you use Romans 8:39-39 in justifying OSAS. I’ve been told that this verse lists only external factors and doesn’t include anything internal to us. This means while nothing external to us can cause us to lose our salvation, we can either forfeit or give back our salvation by things we do ourselves. Is this true?

A Divorce Question

Published: August 13, 2020 (Originally published: August 2, 2014)
Q

I have been separated from my estranged wife now for almost 6 years, she had an affair, lied to me. We are not divorced. My question to you is should I get divorced? My heart tells me I should, but I can’t seem to get the courage to do it. She has never requested a divorce, but there is no hope of getting back together. I know God hates divorce and I have no desire to meet another woman for the time being. I became a believer just this past summer and it has been on my mind more often lately. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. God bless.

Who was Barabbas? I have been intrigued by the meaning of his name (son of the father, if I’m not mistaken). Can you shed some light into his role?

Romans:11:22 contains the phrase, “Otherwise you also will be cut off.” So does this mean that we can we lose our salvation, If we do not continue in His goodness?

The Coming Leader. Follow Up

Published: September 20, 2012 (Originally published: September 19, 2012)
Q

I am totally astonished by your reference to the antichrist being crippled in one arm and blinded in his right eye using Zech: 11.17. In all my long years of being a Christian I have never heard this before and never read that verse until today. I have always believed the antichrist will actually be killed and rise again on the third day in an imitation of Jesus Christ. Can you give me other scriptures that corroborate this version you have?

Is My Mother Saved Or Not?

Published: September 29, 2012 (Originally published: September 28, 2012)
Q

My mother is currently going to an Episcopal church and is OK with women holding a man’s office, and does not believe that Jonah really got swallowed by a whale for three days. However, she does believe that the only way to heaven is by believing Jesus died for our sins. My husband says she is following false doctrine and does not follow the Jesus of our Bible and is not saved. I say it is not our place to question anyone’s salvation, that only God knows our heart. What do you say?

Saved But Not Interested?

Published: September 29, 2013 (Originally published: September 4, 2012)
Q

I have encountered a number of people in my life who claim Jesus as their savior but who don’t seem to know much about Him or even have any interest in learning. Could they be saved? It feels like oil and water talking to them, and their behavior, opinions and fruit don’t appear to be in sync with Gods word. It honestly feels like they are either faking their belief or just don’t know any better. How do you reach someone like this?

I am doing a study on 2nd Peter and am having trouble answering a question. My question deals with 2 Peter 3:17, which is a warning from Peter. I understand the warning but my study question asks, “what does this show regarding once saved, always saved”. Can you help me understand?

Where’s The Repentance?

Published: August 14, 2020 (Originally published: August 5, 2014)
Q

When I became a believer 5 years ago, I couldn’t find an appropriate church and so your site taught me most of what I know. I sincerely appreciate the effort you put into it. My question has to do with belief in Christ being all we need for salvation. My husband says he believes and has a clear understanding of Christ and God. He became a believer shortly after I did. He occasionally reads his Bible and listens to Christian music. However, I feel as though he is not repenting of certain sins. Don’t we need repentance as well?

OSAS And Romans 8:6,13

Published: August 14, 2020 (Originally published: January 6, 2015)
Q

I believe in OSAS, as the Bible clearly teaches it. However, I am finding more and more people (especially in my bible study group) using different scriptures to counter OSAS, which does not make sense to me. The most common one I have seen used is Romans 8:6 and 13 where Paul speaks of the fleshly mind is death (physical and spiritual) and that whoever lives according to the flesh will die spiritually, but whoever lives according to the spirit will live. How does this relate to believers?
